Marquette Basketball: Reviewing 2019-20 non-conference schedule
By Brian Foley
Dec. 4 vs. Jacksonville
Last Year: 12-20 (5-11 Atlantic Sun)
NCAA Tournament: No
2019-20 Projection: 315th
Ah, the Dolphins. Fun name, bad team.
There is not a whole lot to say here. Offensively, Jacksonville can’t shoot, can’t get to the line, and does not protect the ball very well. Defensively, JU doesn’t guard the three-point line, was relatively mediocre defending the paint, and is only so-so at forcing turnovers. Sophomore wing Tyreese Davis had a nice season last year, but may be overmatched as the no. 1 option in 2019-20.
The Dophins have not made the NCAA tournament since 1986, a streak that seems destined to extend at least one more season. This should be a fine time for Wojciechowski to sneak Howard some rest and give extended run to his role players.
Marquette is 2-0 against Jacksonville all-time, with the most recent meeting coming in 2011. Jae Crowder led the way with 27 points in what became just another performance during his Big East Player of the Year-winning season.
