Chico Carter Jr. – Columbia, S.C.

PG | 6-Foot-3 | 185lb | Unranked

Chico Carter out of Cardinal Newman School in South Carolina is going to bring a more traditional guard to build from when he steps on campus at Murray State University. He is a shorter, stockier player that was never afraid to shoot the ball in high school. He averaged 21.8 points a game as a junior and signed his National Letter of Intent last Fall.

Chico Carter Jr. also doesn’t shy away from doing the dirty work on his team. The season before he signed with Murray State, he averaged 5.2 rebounds and dished out 4.7 assists per game. Being from South Carolina, Coach McMahon and staff are hoping they have found the next diamond in the rough point guard from Ja Morant’s home state.

Carter’s got a smooth jump shot and is able to play off the ball to get himself an open shot. He is never afraid to get into the paint, and in high school was able to shake defenders with his dribbling. I’m not sure if it will immediately translate to the college level, but he could have a pretty good handle on him in a couple of years. His ability to get into the lane and be a threat to penetrate also allows him to use his great court vision to find open teammates.
