Utah State Basketball: Breaking down the 2019 Recruiting Class
By TJ Miller
Liam Mcchesney
Mcchesney is the Aggies top ranked recruit for 2019 coming in at 163rd nationally. The British Columbia native flew relatively under the radar but performed at a high level for the U17 Canadian National Team. Mccesney is a 6-9 forward who combines good length with a solid ability to handle and shoot the ball.
Whereas Anderson excels with a strong build, Mcchesney is still growing into his 6-9 frame. It will be interesting to see where Coach Smith wants to play Mcchesney. Utah State doesn’t need another huge presence inside with Neemias Queta ruling the paint. So expect Mcchesney to drift out to the perimeter some and give the Aggies some minutes at the 3 or 4 position.
Coach Smith describes him as a multi-dimensional athlete that can play all over the floor and has a knack for scoring the ball in all sorts of ways. Utah State doesn’t exactly have a history of pulling in top ranked recruits. With that in mind, Mcchesney is a huge get for Smith. The biggest adjustment for Mcchesney will likely be just getting stronger, but there’s no reason he can’t come in day one and contribute right away.
