NCAA Basketball Recruiting: 2020 wing Myles Stute’s down to seven teams
Florida Gators
It’s going to be crowded on the wings for the next couple of seasons, with Deaundrae Ballard, Noah Locke and incoming five-star small forward Scottie Lewis. But even if Lewis does go pro after one season (no sure bet), Louisiana Tech transfer Anthony Duruji will be coming off a redshirt season the following year. This is a case where Stute would struggle finding early playing time and could even be passed over by future top-50 prospects, as Florida has grown into a recruiting power. With other options providing likelier chances at playing time, it’s hard to see him picking the Gators.
Marquette Golden Eagles
With Sacar Amin set to graduate after next season, rising sophomore Brendan Bailey is the lone expected wing on the roster. He had some struggles but will have a much larger role with the Golden Eagles this upcoming campaign. Stute would be the ideal incoming recruit to join four-star power forward Justin Lewis in the 2020 class. Marquette will be losing plenty of offense including 25 ppg scorer Markus Howard and will need to have some offensive-minded talent coming in. Stute’s talents would give him a leg up to possibly join the 2020-21 rotation.
Pittsburgh Panthers
Including double-digit scorer Jared Wilson-Frame, the Panthers lost all of their wing performers from this past season. Four-star small forward Gerald Drumgoole along with fellow freshman wing Justin Champagnie will get plenty of opportunities at that spot in the rotation, along with sophomore Au’Diese Toney, who splits time between both forward positions. For Stute, he may have to always play behind those players if they breakout and solidify their spot as a starter. It can be tricky for players committing early because what the freshmen class does before them can change the landscape of both that team and their recruiting needs.
