Providence Friars

With so many seniors on the upcoming season roster, the Friars will be in play for a major 2020 recruiting class. The forward from New Jersey could be the prized recruit from that group, fitting a nice need in the frontcourt. Alpha Diallo and Kalif Young will graduate, and the team will need insurance in case North Florida transfer Noah Horchler doesn’t pan out when he’s eligible to play.

Providence as a program has grown in recent seasons, consistently making the NCAA Tournament under head coach Ed Cooley. And he’s done well with developing players into NBA-caliber prospects. But as good as the Friars have become recently, they still lack the appeal and prestige to land top-tier players, who are truly considering landing top-tier programs.

Kentucky Wildcats

Even though the Wildcats brought in a top-3 overall recruiting class, none of them were true power forwards. In fact, expect some of their wings to play at the four-spot this upcoming season, including Khalil Whitney and Keion Brooks. Unless sophomore big man EJ Montgomery has a breakout season, they will be a huge need for a forward or two join the upcoming class.

Kentucky is viewed as a favorite to land Ware and could use the depth in the frontcourt, especially if he’s a 3-4 year player rather than a “one and done”. Seeing how head coach John Calipari had developed plenty of forwards in the past such as PJ Washington, having Ware join the team would be a problem for the rest of the SEC.

The Wildcats already have a five-star commitment from guard BJ Boston along with four-star wing Cam’Ron Fletcher. Grabbing frontcourt pieces are next, with Ware possibly being the next to commit. He’ll have to deal with competition potentially from fellow 2020 forward Scottie Barnes and Greg Brown III but his offensive capabilities should put him into position to get on the court and succeed, regardless of who he’s playing with.
