A.J. Hoggard – Huntington, WV

PG | 6-foot-3 | 185 lbs | No. 63 overall

Michigan State offered A.J. Hoggard in early May and it seems as though the program is still heavily targeting the young guard. At this point in time, the Spartans hold the only two crystal ball predictions for his commitment and he would be an interesting addition to the team. As already mentioned, Michigan State is losing plenty of backcourt talent after this coming season and that will open the door for newcomers to find playing time. Jalen Terry is already committed and Hoggard could fit in right alongside him as a 6-foot-3 combo guard.

Across 18 contests for PSA Cardinals (NY) on the EYBL circuit, Hoggard showcased why he is one of the top guards in the country. He averaged 15.2 points (.497/.325/.632), 3.8 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game on the season. While he did struggle with turnovers on occasion, it is clear that he will be a difference-making guard at the high-major level. Hoggard is at his best with the ball in his hands but he is a competitive player that will do whatever it takes to help his team win. Tough player.

Even though Michigan State recently snagged those two crystal ball predictions, though, there are a ton of other programs competing for this commitment. Perhaps most notably, Louisville is also heavily targeting the young point guard. Although Hoggard is currently playing for Huntington Prep during the high school season, he is originally a Pennsylvania native and it will be interesting to see if he chooses to stay closer to home. That could open the door for programs such as St. John’s and Maryland to sneak in.
