Maryland Terrapins

Maryland basketball is entering a crucial season. Head coach Mark Turgeon has put together a superb roster for 2019-20 and the Terrapins are widely expected to be a top-10 team in the country. If they are able to live up to those expectations, then that would be a massive step for the Terps en route to joining the elite in college basketball. This affects this particular recruitment because Daishen Nix could be the point guard to follow in the footsteps of Anthony Cowan after this potentially exceptional season. Cowan will be graduating after the campaign, opening the door for an heir to his starting spot.

Considering the amount of young talent on Maryland’s current roster, it seems likely that Nix would be joining a roster poised to compete for a national title during his freshman season. It does not seem likely that many of the current Terps will take the leap to the professional ranks after 2019-20, even if the program puts together an elite year. With that being said, Nix would be the perfect addition to the future roster given his elite-level playmaking ability. He could immediately play a vital role in dishing to open scorers such as Eric Ayala, Aaron Wiggins, and possibly even Jalen Smith, all of whom could be juniors in 2020-21.

Daishen Nix officially visited Maryland all the way back in wintertime and it is clear that the program has stayed in close contact. This would be a huge recruiting win for Coach Turgeon as Nix would be an amazing snag to make up for the loss of Cowan after this coming season. Coach Turgeon has shown excellent recruiting chops in recent years but this will be a tough group of programs to beat out for this top-15 star. The Terps are a serious contender, though.
