20) DJ Steward

Position: PG/SG
Height: 6-3
Weight: 165 lbs
High School: Whitney Young (Chicago, IL)
Considering: Duke, DePaul, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa State, Louisville, North Carolina, Texas

Scouting Report: Steward needs to add weight and strength (like most rising high school seniors do) and doesn’t have prototypical size for someone with his score-first mentality, but he knows how to fill it up.

A quality shooter with range extending well past the three-point line, there isn’t much of anything Steward can’t do offensively. His ball-handling and passing abilities allow him to spend some time at point guard, but he’s at his best when he’s looking to score. Steward can create his own shot whenever he wants as well.

Steward’s lack of size gives him some limitations defensively but, for the purpose of the college game, he has the quickness and athleticism to adequately defend either guard position.

Prediction: Duke. Steward has taken visits to Illinois, Louisville, and Texas and insists he remains “wide open” with his recruitment, but recent scholarship offers from Duke and North Carolina have shaken things up. The offer from the Blue Devils came following his play at Nike’s Peach Jam and Duke’s two commits in the 2020 class – five-stars Jalen Johnson and Jeremy Roach – are recruiting him to join him. The interest is there and he fits their style of play.
