NCAA Basketball Recruiting: Predicting destinations for top 2020 prospects
By Brian Rauf
15) Bryce Thompson
Position: PG/SG
Height: 6-5
Weight: 175 lbs
High School: Booker T. Washington (Tulsa, OK)
Considering: Arkansas, Houston, Kansas, Michigan State, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Tennessee, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech
Scouting Report: Thompson is another guy that needs to get stronger but has the ideal height for a combo guard at 6-5. He has a well-rounded offensive game that includes tremendous vision but his highlighted by his scoring ability.
Thompson can fill it up from the outside, kill opponents by attacking the paint, and beat them everywhere in between. He’s also very crafty and has a wide array of moves in his arsenal that allow him to get quality shots no matter what the defense does. Floaters, runners, fadeaways, stepbacks…it’s all there for Thompson, who has been improving thanks to the 5:00 am workouts he started when he was in fifth grade.
Prediction: Kansas. Both Oklahoma schools have a solid chance to keep Thompson in-state, but the Jayhawks are right at the forefront of the list. Why? Thompson’s father played for Tulsa in the 1990’s when Bill Self was an assistant for the Golden Hurricane.
That connection should play a major role in this decision, as well as the playing time KU can offer him. The Jayhawks will have a hole at shooting guard and, if Dotson leaves early for the NBA, they will really need someone with Thompson’s versatility.
