Point Guard

Minutes Breakdown: Devon Dotson (35), Issac Mcbride (5)

For the point guard position in Lawrence, it is certainly much more about quality than it is quantity.

The Jayhawks have plenty of guards, but few of those guards are true point guards. Some of the projected shooting guards will certainly play minutes at point guard, but for now, we’ll project the minutes based only off of who is a true point guard.

That isn’t too hard, as Devon Dotson is expected to play a massive load of minutes next season. The former All-American started every game at point guard for the Jayhawks last season and will continue to man the starting point guard spot. Dotson is one of the top returning players in the country and will play minutes as such, likely leading the Jayhawks in time on court.

However, expecting Dotson to play all game every game is very unrealistic, so someone will need to step into a backup role. That someone is Issac McBride, a freshman point guard from Arkansas.

McBride was the High School Gatorade Player of the Year from Arkansas, so the guard has experience leading an offense. He wasn’t very highly touted, so his development in camp will play a big role in his minutes, but he looks like an intriguing option to take some of the load off of Dotson.
