Matt Zona – Oradell, NJ

C | 6-foot-9 | 235 lbs | No. 267 overall

Matt Zona is not regarded as a top 250 player in the 2020 class but he has received plenty of high-major interest over the past couple of the months. He stretches the floor consistently with his 3-point jumper and can be a scoring threat in the post as well. While he does need to develop a bit on the defensive end of the floor, he boasts enough size to make those improvements.

Zona did not play on any of the major shoe circuits this summer but still managed to attract the attention of many programs.

Notre Dame offered Zona a scholarship back in late-July and the program has remained in heavy contact with the big man. The Fighting Irish will be hosting Zona for an official visit in late-September and that will be a great opportunity for the program to make an impactful pitch. Considering Zona is a superb student, Notre Dame’s academic prestige could be a selling point.

With that said, though, Notre Dame is far from alone in this recruiting battle. Harvard, St. Joe’s, Penn State, Penn, Davidson, and Vanderbilt are also included in Zona’s final seven.

There is no clear favorite in this recruiting battle but Notre Dame seems to be in a strong position. Zona is not a highly-rated player but brings plenty of size to the table. He should be an impactful center at the high-major level.
