Big East Basketball: Analyzing each program’s 2019 recruiting class
Creighton returns a ton of talent from last year and looks the part of a darkhorse contender to win the Big East. Even though they are a bit undersized across the board, this roster oozes offensive talent. Head coach Greg McDermott will likely push this team to thrive as perhaps one of the most potent scoring units in the entire country. Ty-Shon Alexander will lead the way but there are plenty of other scoring options around him. With regards to their freshman class, though, I would not expect a ton of impact minutes.
Coach McDermott was able to secure two commits from the 2019 class and their duo comes in ranked at No. 105 in the country. Local point guard product Shereef Mitchell (No. 221) is the more highly-rated of these two and he could see minutes as a back-up lead guard behind Marcus Zegarowski as a freshman. Creighton’s backcourt, though, is insanely deep and cracking that rotation will be quite difficult.
The other commit in this class is Jalen Windham (No. 366), a 6-foot-5 wing. Once again, Creighton has plenty of depth on the wing and it will be tough for Windham to find minutes. He is a great perimeter threat with a blossoming all-around game. The Bluejays are also likely to return a lot for 2020-21 as well, so Windham could be a redshirt candidate before emerging for playing time later in his career.
I am not expecting major contributions from this recruiting class in Year 1 but the duo will be a part of the future plans for the Bluejays.
