Oklahoma State Basketball: 2019-20 season preview for Cowboys
Who will see meaningful minutes?
With so many young players joining the team, it is hard seeing any of them finding their way into the starting lineup, at least to start. When the team hits the floor in November, I would expect Dziagwa, Waters III, Likekele, McGriff, and Anei to be the starting five.
What will be different for Oklahoma State in 2019 is the quality depth that his recruiting class will afford him. With Anderson III and Harris, Jr., in particular, coming in, that will allow Waters III to spend more time in his more natural position off the ball than he could last year. Watson can back up at the shooting guard position and not only give them depth, but also a talent upgrade in their reserves.
The frontcourt depth is equally as important to Oklahoma State as the backcourt. The Boone twins will likely see key minutes off the bench, but Laurent could be a big key for the forward group. The swingman brings experience to a position that has little if any aside from the two starters. It is very possible that Laurent can be a stabilizing force for the Cowboys’ second unit this season.
Oklahoma State may once again be leaning on their starting five this season, but as the season goes on if the newcomers can progress to the point where they can give the Cowboys the production off the bench, that they struggled to find last season, we should see them start to climb from the bottom of the conference.
