Projected Starting Guards

Derryck Thornton: Guard, 6’3, 195 lbs, Graduate senior

Thornton comes to the Eagles after averaging 7.7ppg, 4.3apg, and 2.8 rpg. Christian gets a key pickup in Thornton, who has had experience playing in the ACC at Duke for one year. Last year, Thornton had seven games where he did not turn the ball over and USC was 11-3 in games when he had more than five assists. He did not shoot the ball well last year, only shooting 38.2% from the field and was 28.6% from the field. If he gets fouled though and is sent to the line, he knocked down 66% of his free throws so look for him to drive the ball with intentions to attack the rim.

Wynston Tabbs: Guard, 6’2, 193 lbs, Sophomore

Tabbs had a decent season last year for the Eagles. He averaged 13.9 ppg, 3.9 rpg, shot 43.9% from the field and was 2nd on the team in FT% with 82.5% in his freshman campaign. He also shot 32.1% from 3 as well. Looks to be a driver like Thornton, but if Tabbs gets fouled, the chances of him making his free throws are high. Lots of potential for Tabbs as he is entering his 2nd year with the Eagles and has the potential to help them win right out of the beginning.

Jared Hamilton: Guard, 6’4, 203 lbs, Senior

Hamilton is entering his final year of eligibility. Hamiton averaged 6.0 ppg, 2.1 rpg, and 42.9 FG%. He did not shoot the 3 ball well. His percentage from deep was 13.8% so do not look at him to be shooting from 3 a lot. He only turned the ball over 16 times last season in 20 games played so expect him to be cautious with the ball. Only had 10 assists last year too. The question for Christian is will Hamilton be able to make the leap and help out Thornton and Tabbs?
