#18 Ohio State

Record: 2-0 | Next Game: Wednesday, Nov. 13 vs. #10 Villanova

Ohio State received quite a deal of hype heading into this season. The Buckeyes found themselves ranked #18 in the preseason poll, and many analysts consider them a strong competitor in the Big Ten this season. Others, considering how the Buckeyes have seemed to underperform in recent years, have remained skeptical of their abilities.

Well, we are through only one week of the college basketball season, and Ohio State has already made a huge statement to silence some of these critics. They defeated a very good Cincinnati team 64-56 last Wednesday in a game that many thought would go Cincy’s way. After being victorious against their in-state opponent, Ohio State will certainly be ready for their shot at #10 Villanova.

Junior Forward, Kyle Young, who had 14 points against Cincy and led the Buckeyes in scoring, will now look to give the Villanova bigs some issues. Kaleb Wesson is also a threat within this Ohio State frontcourt. One thing that will hurt the Buckeyes is the injury of Senior forward Andre Wesson. After suffering an eye injury last week, Wesson is out for two weeks. His absence may hurt this frontcourt; however, they will still be strong up front without him.

Ohio State will be competitive against Villanova without a doubt, but the guards are going to have to be involved more. Villanova’s guards will look to stretch the Buckeyes and they are also very good defensively. If the Ohio State guards step up to take some weight off of their solid frontcourt, then there is a good chance they can pull off the upset in Columbus on Wednesday.
