Iowa Basketball: 2019-20 keys to success against Cincinnati Bearcats

1) Adjust to playing without Jordan Bohannon
A few days ago it was announced Jordan Bohannon would undergo another hip surgery with the intent of getting one hundred percent healthy and receiving a medical redshirt to be eligible next season. Even at less than full strength, Bohannon averaged over 25 minutes a game for the Hawkeyes, and the senior has helped Iowa rank tied with Gonzaga for first in the country in offensive efficiency via Ken Pom. So what will playing without Bohannon mean for Iowa?
Freshman Joe Toussaint should see a pretty large uptick in minutes. Toussaint has the quickness the Hawkeyes crave out in transition but will need to prove he can make good decisions on a consistent basis. The starting trio of CJ Frederick, Joe Weiskamp, and Connor McCaffery will also inevitably probably need to be more active in handling the basketball and Bakari Evelyn will likely see more time as well.
Bohannon has also been a remarkable shooter his entire career at Iowa. Sure, Weiskamp and Frederick can really knock down threes in spurts, but I think not having Bohannon might allow Cincinnati to double Garza more often with fewer repercussions.
I’ll be fascinated to see which underclassman guard can step up in Bohannon’s absence.
