Chris Lykes leads Miami over Clemson in overtime
Chris Lykes scored 16 of his game-high 27 points in the second half to help Miami overcome a 10-point deficit over the final 8:48 of regulation and defeat Clemson 73-68 in overtime. Lykes, who joined the 1,000-point club during the game, tallied 10 of the Hurricanes’ 17 points down the stretch, including a shot in the paint to force overtime with 48 seconds left. Although he did miss a chance, end the game in regulation as his 3-point shot at the buzzer went awry. The 5-7 junior point guard was 10 of 16 from the field and three of six from long-distance.
While Lykes was the catalyst of the Hurricanes comeback during the final 20 minutes of regulation, it was DJ Vasiljevic that sent the Tigers home disappointed as he knocked down a three-pointer with 59 seconds remaining to break a 68-68 tie. Vasiljevic then iced the game by converting a pair of free throws down the stretch. The 6-3 senior guard finished with 15 points, marking the sixth straight game that he has reached double-figures and seven rebounds.
Vasiljevic is one of the best shooters in the ACC and ranks fourth in the conference in field goal percentage, fourth in 3-pointers made, first in three-point percentage, first in effective field goal percentage as well as 11th in scoring. Kameron McGusty added 15 points while Keith Stone contributed nine rebounds before fouling out
Miami (9-3,1-1ACC ) has reeled off five straight games. Meanwhile, Clemson fell to 6-7 and 0-3 in conference play. The Tigers have lost two straight and six of seven with their only win during this stretch coming against Jacksonville.
