Anthony Cowan Jr. and Jalen Smith led with authority

The Terps made a conscious effort to get the ball inside and it was working. Cowan Jr. had 20 points with 11:49 left in the game and they had a 50-43 lead. He continues to impress and add great plays to his already impressive Maryland tenure.

At the rate he was going, he was on pace to score 30 and he did. His efficiency in the game speaks to his ability to create his own shot with dribble moves or just attack the basket and draw fouls. He notched a career-high 31 points, six rebounds, and six assists.

Smith got a few easy dunks in the paint but where he really made his mark Thursday night was on defense. Averaging 2.2 blocks per game this season, he finished the game with 18 points, 14 rebounds, and five blocks. He now has four double-doubles in as many games. His performance is helping him in two ways: the Terps are winning important games in conference play which bodes well for their NCAA Tournament resume and his NBA Draft stock is rising with each stellar performance.

Cowan Jr. passed Maryland basketball great Walt Williams for 12th all-time in scoring with 1,716 points. This was another great achievement for the Bowie, Maryland native.
