6. Purdue (14-12, 7-8) at Wisconsin (15-10, 8-6) – Tuesday, Feb 18

Despite both teams already having double-digit losses, each is considered currently safe in the NCAA Tournament field. That’s what happens when you can get a Quad 1 or 2 win each week, giving very impressive resumes. But Purdue should be careful and avoid a losing streak to end up like Minnesota, who currently is .500 overall and out of the field.

The good news for both teams is that the rest of the Big Ten regular-season schedule is easier than others will be facing, avoiding Michigan State, Maryland and Penn State. The Boilermakers though are the team who needs this win more, considering their struggles on the road and having lost two straight coming into this game.

5. Houston (20-6, 10-3) at Memphis (17-8, 6-6) – Saturday, Feb 22

To a big degree, we shouldn’t be judging Penny Hardaway and Memphis by preseason expectations. James Wiseman isn’t around and they’ve struggled badly without second-leading scorer DJ Jeffries. And outside of Precious Achiuwa and Lester Quinones, the underclassmen for the Tigers have badly underperformed in terms of consistency.

The last stand for Memphis will be this Saturday against the top team in the AAC, the Houston Cougars. Getting a win like this would jumpstart the Tigers at-large campaign with a Quad 1 victory. Otherwise, with three more road matchups coming up, this team might finish under .500 in league struggling to get more than two bids to the NCAA Tournament.
