Mountain West Basketball power rankings: Utah State, Nevada rises on up
By John Vaccaro
10. San Jose State (-)
Just like the only team ranked behind them, San Jose State also managed to go winless over the last couple of weeks. The thing that makes it difficult to keep them ranked ahead of Wyoming is that the competition they failed to beat was much worse than what Wyoming was faced with.
While Wyoming was forced to face Colorado State, New Mexico, and Boise State, San Jose State’s only tough matchup was at Nevada. Their other two games came against Air Force and Fresno State with the matchup against Fresno coming at home.
San Jose State has been a very odd team all season long. Two of their three wins are against New Mexico and Nevada who were expected to beat them rather easily, but they’ve also lost at home against Wyoming.
Their schedule to close out the regular season is absolutely brutal, featuring UNLV, Colorado State, Boise State, and Utah State, so it is very likely that we’ve already seen San Jose State’s last win of the season. They’ll need to hope that Wyoming doesn’t pick up a win over the next couple of weeks or we could see a new team take over last place for the first time this season.
