Houston Cougars

Current Record: 21-7

Conference Record 11-4

BracketMatrix Seed: 7

Status: In

Houston has done well this season to avoid the really bad losses and that’s going to really help them if they can’t get the auto bid. 13-0 combined in (NET) Quadrant 3 and Quadrant 4 wins helps the Cougars avoid having any major blemishes on their record.

Winning two out of their last three will safely see the Cougars in the field and barring a major collapse they’ll get a first-round bye in the AAC tournament. Caleb Mills has been a huge bright spot off the bench this season including back to back 20 point performances against Tulsa and Memphis.

Houston is definitely in the best spot moving forward of teams in the AAC but has a difficult challenge to end the season. Fellow AAC bubble team Cincinnati is pretty much in a do or die situation where they are in desperate need of another big win. A road game in Storrs is not an easy task and the Cougars have a shot at redemption in their regular-season finale against Memphis.

There’s work to be done for that at-large bid but the Cougars are likely to enter the AAC tournament as the favorites to win. For now, the Cougars are safely in the field.
