How did the Seminoles do?

By all means, this is a team that exceeded all expectations put in front of them. They began the season unranked in the Preseason AP Poll but by December, with a 7-2 record, the voters started taking notice.

Florida State finished the regular season in prime shape for a run in the 2020 NCAA Tournament. They were 4-1 against teams ranked in the AP Top 25 Poll and a combined 15-6 against teams in Quadrants I and II of this year’s NET rankings. Their 10th NET ranking was due largely to their 9-2 record against teams in Quadrant II. It also helped that they went undefeated at home (16-0).

When it comes to the NCAA Tournament, it’s hard to foresee them falling before the Elite 8, a place they made it to as a No. 4 seed in 2019. With a higher seed and better odds, things could have fallen in their favor once again in 2020.

Their depth was something that carried them in 2019-20 and should carry them over the next few seasons as freshmen Patrick Williams and Balsa Koprivica adjust in the rotation. Koprivica put up 4.7 points and 2.4 rebounds per game in 10.3 minutes of action in 2019-20. He notched a career-high of 15 points twice and a career-high of seven rebounds three times during the regular season.

The Seminoles bench was something to marvel at this past season. As a unit, they led the conference in bench points per game with 30.0 points per contest, rebounds per game (13.2) and ranked third in 3-pointers made (3.1). Oh, and again ACC Sixth Man of the Year winner, Patrick Williams, is just a freshman.
