Early 2020-21 Season Preview

While the departure of Trent Forrest hurts the backcourt, sophomore guard Anthony Polite and junior guard RayQuan Evans are a few names that come to mind when it comes to replacing the value he brought to the rotation. Evans appeared in 20 games off the bench this past season with no starts while Polite started in five conference games and appeared in all 20 as well. Four of last year’s five starters return as do some key underclassmen.

Then, there’s their latest recruiting coup coming in next season. On paper, their 2020 recruiting class ranks just 46th, according to 247Sports, but one is five-star prospect Scottie Barnes and the other is top JUCO prospect Sardaar Calhoun, both of whom should contribute right away in 2020-21.

Barnes was a member of this year’s McDonald’s All-American squad as a member of Monteverde (FL), one of the top teams in the country. He was one of their top players that put on a show with the ball in his hands attacking the rim and shooting the basketball.

Calhoun is a junior-college recruit at Missouri State-West Plains where he put up 17.6 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game on 42.9 percent shooting from 3-point land this past season. He’s a 6-foot-6 slasher with length and athleticism to spare and should fit right in the Seminoles’ rotation.

Don’t be surprised if the Seminoles are an early Top 10 favorite coming out of the ACC in 2020-21. They’ll be a bit top-heavy with seniors but with the nice blend of underclassmen, things could go a lot better than expected when things return back to normal in the college basketball world.
