NCAA Basketball: Ranking the 7 finalists for grad transfer EJ Anosike
6. Wake Forest Demon Deacons
Although the team loses their best player to graduation in Brandon Childress (15.6 ppg and 4.6 apg), Wake Forest does return rising seniors Chaundee Brown and Olivier Sarr. The 7’0 Sarr and Anosike could play with each other in the frontcourt, although the spacing wouldn’t be the greatest in the world.
But similar to Georgia, this is a Wake Forest team that is very likely to finish towards the bottom of the ACC next year. Anosike’s arrival wouldn’t change that and he wouldn’t be surrounded by the right kind of talent to maximize his skill set.
5. Boston College Eagles
With head coach Jim Christian officially coming back, the Eagles situation isn’t as cloudy anymore. And with the right addition, could be a factor in the ACC next season. They get back Wynston Tabbs, who averaged 13.9 ppg as a freshman two years ago before missing this past season with an injury, Pairing him up with this year’s leading scorer Jay Heath and Providence transfer Makai Ashton-Langford will give Boston College a formidable backcourt.
The frontcourt has more questions, with Nik Popovich graduating and 6’8 forward Jairus Hamilton transferring out. That leaves just 6’8 forward Steffon Mitchell as the key frontcourt piece, so Anosike would definitely have minutes available this upcoming year. But the Eagle would be giving up a lot of size with those two on the court together and the odds of this hypothetical team making the Big Dance still isn’t high. But with Boston College not being that far away from Sacred Heart or his home state of New Jersey, this may be a darkhorse contender to land Anosike.
