NCAA Basketball Recruiting: Analyzing transfer Kevin Marfo’s final 5 teams
Penn State Nittany Lions
Minnesota isn’t the only Big Ten team in need of new frontcourt players, as Penn State loses both Lamar Stevens and Mike Watkins via graduation. That leaves literally just backup big man John Harrar returning, along with Seth Lundy playing at the undersized four-spot. Top JUCO big man
Valdir Manuel is part of the recruiting class but the Nittany Lions will need more than that to compete.
Marfo would be inserted as a starting power forward and would play alongside a great set of guards in Myreon Jones, Myles Dread and Izaiah Brockington. If Penn State can land Marfo just for rebounding and defensive purposes, he would end up being one of the most impactful transfer commits from this offseason.
St. John’s Red Storm
Even with the loss of Mustapha Heron, St. John’s returns a solid core of players, led by rising seniors LJ Figueroa and Rasheem Dunn. On the perimeter and wing positions, this team is set but they still have a glaring hole at the center spot. The Red Storm either used sophomore Josh Roberts with mixed results or had primarily small lineups.
The rebounding was also an issue, especially when it came to giving up offensive rebounds. Marfo would be a near-perfect addition for the Red Storm who doesn’t need him to score as much as simply to defend and rebound. Adding him could be the difference between being an at-large hopeful or just another Big East team in the bottom-half.
