NCAA Basketball Recruiting: Analyzing transfer Landers Nolley 11 finalists
Georgetown Hoyas
Although head coach Patrick Ewing has been known for coaching big men, guards have had some success with him as well. Mac McClung and James Akinjo have been big scorers in the past couple of seasons, while Jahvon Blair averaged double figures as well in 2019-20. But Nolley would be the first surefire NBA Draft prospect Ewing would have since arriving at Georgetown.
The issue of eligibility plays a big role for Nolley with the Hoyas. Transfers and graduations have taken a ton of production off of this team already and both Blair and Jamorko Pickett are upcoming seniors. Barring a massive 2021 class of transfers/recruits, there just won’t be much for Nolley to work with. At the same time, it’s hard to envision both he and McClung being on the floor together and meshing well. These are two of the biggest volume shooters in the country, with high usage percentages. But if McClung goes, pro, then Nolley wouldn’t have to worry about that.
Maryland Terrapins
The Terps already caught a fish in the transfer portal, landing Boston College forward Jairus Hamilton. They hope to also land Nolley as well, who would be a huge addition to a team that’ll be turning the page soon on this group of players. But this would be a scenario where Maryland would want Nolley to sit out a season, as they already have a trio of guards ready to start next season.
Aaron Wiggins, Eric Ayala and Daryl Morsell all started last season, combining to average nearly 30 ppg. Morsell would be gone after next year, giving Nolley his respective spot and having a senior-laden lineup surrounding him. There’s a real chance that he’ll play just one more season wherever Nolley goes, so having a roster ready to win in 2021-22 will be important for him.
