NCAA Basketball: Top 10 most watchable teams throughtout 2019-20 season
By Max Hastings
8. Michigan State Spartans
While the 2020 season was certainly an inconsistent one for the Spartans, they were still one of the most watchable teams in the country Ranking #1 in Assists Per FG Made for the 4th straight season. Izzo’s team is still the gold standard in college basketball when it comes to sharing the basketball and making sure everyone on the court is involved.
However, the Spartan’s overall offense failed to reach the lofty standards of Watchability set by past Tom Izzo squads. Finishing 1st nationally in overall Watchability last year including top 20 ranks in Offensive Efficiency and Effective FG%, their offensive efficiency ranking fell to 33rd this season with their eFG% ranking also falling all the way to 57th. While their play was still good enough to make them one of the most watchable teams in the country and even earn them a top 10 AP ranking to end the season, it was still an overall disappointing season for Michigan State given their lofty preseason expectations.
The offseason will not be any easier for the Spartan faithful either, as their star floor general and one of the most watchable players in the nation, Cassius Winston, will be leaving for the NBA draft. A lot will be asked of Freshman Rockett Watts to take the mantle and run one of the most watchable offenses college basketball has ever seen.
