NCAA Basketball Recruiting: Analyzing final 3 for grad transfer Jordan Bruner
Baylor Bears
The Baylor Bears were a top-tier team in the Big 12 and the nation in the 2019-20 season and they finished with a 26-4 (15-3 Big 12) record and fifth in the final AP Poll. Their 23-game winning streak included key wins against No. 17 Villanova, No. 12 Arizona, No. 18 Butler, No. 22 Texas Tech, No. 3 Kansas, Oklahoma at home and No. 14 West Virginia. Their scoring nucleus included Jared Butler, MaCio Teague, Davion Mitchell, and Freddie Gillespie. Butler and Teague averaged 16 and 13 points per game respectively.
Bruner would be an excellent addition to the Bears frontcourt and a more than capable replacement for Gillespie. The addition of Bruner would give the Bears a great amount of size and length in their frontcourt because all their forwards would be 6-foot-8 or above. Those reinforcements will keep coming because, in Baylor’s 2020 recruiting class, four-star centers Zach Loveday and Dain Dainja will be coming on board along with four-star guard LJ Cryer. Loveday and Dainja are seven feet and 6-foot-9 inches tall respectively.
Baylor would be an excellent team for Bruner to join. It has seen plenty of success in the Big 12 finishing in the top five of the conference standings the last four seasons. Teague declared for the NBA Draft March 30th but is keeping his options open. If he does return and the Bears land Bruner, they will be a team to beat in the 2020-21 season.
