Arkansas Razorbacks

If we assume that leading scorer and passer Mason Jones remains in the NBA Draft, Arkansas will be without their top three players in assists (Jimmy Whitt and Jalen Harris) from this past season. They’ve been linked to just about every point guard transfer in the portal but just recently lost out on Pitt transfer Trey McGowens.

They’re looking at a number of ball-handlers, normal of head coach Eric Musselman. But the odds of seeing him travel all the way out east to Arkansas isn’t very high and they do have a pair of top-100 newcomers in KK Robinson and Davonte Davis coming in. From a natural fit standpoint, I think the Razorbacks are the 4th best option on the list.

Iowa State Cyclones

The Cyclones are a better fit compared to Arkansas, with how much the ball is in the guards’ hands in a Steve Prohm offense. They also need a new starting point guard, with Tyrese Haliburton a likely NBA Draft lottery pick. Gomez’s shooting will be a plus for a team ranked in the bottom-third in three-point shooting this past season.

Iowa State has a top-25 incoming recruiting class but three-star point guard Jaden Walker is the only true ball-handler projected on the roster for 2020-21. Gomez would probably end up in the starting lineup for a Big 12 team if he picks the Cyclones but the odds of making the NCAA Tournament as an at-large are as good as CSUN getting the autobid in the Big West next year.
