Highs and Lows

The Bulldogs did not have much in the way of lows this year. When you only lose two games all year it is hard to pinpoint to many things that went wrong. However, in their losses they did get ran out of the gym. The two losses to Michigan in the Battle 4 Atlantis Finals and BYU in Provo. In both of those games the opponents hit a ton of threes and ambushed the Bulldogs from the gate.

Those were the only two blemishes on the ledger for Gonzaga. They had tremendous highs they were on pace for their second highest win total under Coach Few. They had the West Coast conference player of the year and they averaged about 90 points per game. They play an exciting brand of basketball and they were playing their best basketball heading into what would have been the NCAA tournament.

Let’s assume a couple of things here. The first is that Gonzaga was going to be a one seed in the West. Second, they make yet another run to the second weekend and most likely the National final. If they made the national final, got the one seed and yet again made the second weekend that would end one of the most dominant 5-year stretches of any team in this game. If those were to be true that would mean Gonzaga played in two National Finals, Two Final Fours, four Sweet 16’s and three Elite Eights. Not to bad for an overrated mid major, especially doing that against the best 68 teams in the country.

The entire season was a high point for Gonzaga. They have earned the respect they so rightfully deserved for so long. Coach Few is likely going to stay in Spokane as the coach of Gonzaga. That is the biggest win of all. The fact that Gonzaga has been able to retain their fantastic head coach for so long, and that Coach Few has no interest in leaving it seems. A coach like Few only comes around once in a lifetime and the fact he wants to stay at Gonzaga just shows how much of an actual blue blood they are. Those are the coveted jobs at times may be more appealing to coaches than the NBA.
