NCAA Basketball Recruiting: Analyzing finalists for transfer Jamarius Burton
Marquette Golden Eagles
The loss of Markus Howard is going to hurt the Golden Eagles for next season but just as big a problem for the following year will be Kobe McEwen, the likely leading scorer and passer for 2020-21. And outside of Symir Torrence and Greg Elliot, the team has no guards projected on the future roster. Marquette has a top-15 recruiting class coming in but they’re all forwards.
Burton is one of multiple transfers the Golden Eagles are after, including Justin Turner (grad) and David DeJulius (sit-out). Pairing both Burton and DeJulius would be as good an offseason as the Golden Eagles could ask for, with a ton of playing time available. And these transfers could flourish under head coach Steve Wojciechowski.
Seton Hall Pirates
With both Myles Powell and Quincy McKnight gone, Anthony Nelson remains the lone Pirate guard who averages over 1.0 apg. Even incoming transfer Takal Molson is a natural shooting guard rather than a traditional ball-handler. That’s why they’ve been hard after Bryce Aiken, a grad transfer point guard from Harvard.
As for the following season, Seton Hall is looking at not only Burton but also Ohio State transfer shooting guard Luther Muhammad. Landing them both would be big since they play different positions. But if the Pirates had to prioritize one, the Wichita State playmaker is the better and more needed option.
