NCAA Basketball: 7 pivotal recruiting battles remaining in the 2020 class
Karim Mane
CG | 6-foot-4 | 195 lbs | No. 120 overall
Karim Mane is still listed at No. 120 in the 247Sports Composite Ranking, but many experts feel that he is a much better player than that and could be viewed as a fringe five-star prospect. As a result, it should come as no surprise to hear that he is one of the most heavily sought-after uncommitted prospects in the 2020 class. Coaches around the nation are eager to secure this last-minute commitment as Mane fits the mold of someone that can step in and play a major role as a freshman.
The Montreal native is flat-out elite when it comes to attacking the basket off the dribble. He can break his defender down at the point of attack and also excels in the pick-and-roll. Considering his well-built frame and superb athleticism, Mane can also defend multiple positions on the other end of the floor. To put it simply, he will be a high-impact lead guard from the opening tip of his collegiate career.
While there does not appear to be a heavy favorite to land Mane’s commitment, Marquette has been among the most involved for a long time. Considering the Golden Eagles are losing both Markus Howard and Sacar Anim this offseason, it makes sense that they would be in the market for an immediate plug-and-play guard of the future in Milwaukee. Marquette is also the only school that was able to host Mane for an official visit before the extended dead period began.
It is also important to mention that Michigan State is similarly in need of a guard for this coming season after the graduation of Cassius Winston. The Spartans are always dangerous on the recruiting trail considering their levels of success under head coach Tom Izzo.
There does not appear to be a current timetable for Mane’s decision and plenty of other schools are also involved. These include Memphis, Maryland, Alabama, DePaul, and Georgetown, among others.
