NCAA Basketball: Top 10 returning players for 2020-21 season
By William Cash
9. Collin Gillespie (Villanova)
Gillespie has come along way from being a non-essential part of the Wildcat’s last national championship team. The senior guard will lead one of college basketball’s premier programs. The guard averaged 15 points, three rebounds, and four assists last year and represented Villanova on the All-Big East second team.
With the exception of Gillespie’s cold spell at the end of the year, he proved multiple times this year that when he gets hot it is very difficult to stop him even for the best nation’s top teams. As proven with 28 and 27-point outputs against Baylor and Butler.
Not only is Gillespie a great scorer he is an outstanding passer and defender as well. Gillespie ranked fifth in assists per game and fourth in total assists in the Big East. As with that Gillespie averaged one steal a game and ranked 11th in the Big East in total steals.
With Justin Moore, Jermaine Samuels, and Jeremiah Robinson-Earl coming back next year, Gillespie is leading not only one of the best teams in the nation, but most likely the best team in the nation. It’s safe to say that Gillespie and the Wildcats are gonna be a headache for
teams across the nation.
