BYU Cougars

The Cougars got a nice pickup in the transfer portal this offseason, landing center Matt Haarms. But they need to find another point guard, with four-year starter TJ Haws now gone. Alex Barcello is the lead ball-handler but as a rising senior, BYU needs to fine both a graduate and sit-out guard transfer to add to the depth.

BYU has been after a number of guards beside Carey, including Franco Miler Jr., Anthony Nelson, Cam Mack and Jeremiah Francis, who each likely will have to sit out a year. If any of them pick the Cougars then they’ll be off the list for Carey. But expect Coach Mark Pope to end up with one of these candidates.

Creighton Bluejays

The team loses leading scorer Ty-Shon Alexander to the NBA Draft but does return both point guard Marcus Zegarowski, along with senior guard Mitchell Ballock. There’s a very good chance that both players won’t be around after next season Creighton needs to find a point guard that can fit their scheme.

Carey and Coach McDermott may be a better fit than where he was at Syracuse, with the high-flying offense suitable for point guards who can score. The Bluejays may be the place who can maximize Carey’s potential and they’ll have a need for him for the 2021-22 season.
