NCAA Basketball: Analyzing Syracuse transfer Jalen Carey final 7 teams
Georgetown Hoyas
With both point guards (Terrell Alen and Jagan Mosely) graduating, the Hoyas are in huge need of guards for the future. They landed Arkansas grad transfer Jalen Harris for the upcoming season but will need to find one for the 2021-22 campaign. There is three-star point guard prospect Tyler Beard for depth but the opportunity to land Carey shouldn’t be passed up.
For Carey, he’ll have to take into consideration of Georgetown’s overall program. There have been numerous departures from the roster and unless Mac McClung comes back for what would be his senior season, the Hoyas do not project to be competitive in the Big East. And Coach Ewing’s job could be in jeopardy if next year doesn’t go well. Since he has to sit out a year, Carey will have to be careful about the next situation he lands at.
Marquette Golden Eagles
This is an interesting team to be on the list, considering that Marquette already landed a point guard transfer this offseason in Ohio State’s DJ Carton. He shared the ball-handling duties with CJ Walker this past season, before leaving during league play due to personal issues. Carton has the ability to play off the ball but having the ball in his hands would be preferred.
Carton could get a waiver and have a big next season and enter the NBA Draft. And with the Golden Eagles lacking perimeter depth for the future, adding Carey makes sense for the program to avoid being left out. That being said, a Carey-Carton pairing may not benefit all sides. Looking for a natural shooting guard sit-out transfer may be better for the program to target.
