NCAA Basketball: Analyzing Miami (OH) transfer Nike Sibande final 5 teams
Georgia Bulldogs
The Bulldogs have their starting shooting guard next season in George Mason grad transfer Justin Kier but needs to find his replacement for the following season. As of now, the team is stocking up on talented and capable ball-handlers and frontcourt players but outside of reserve Tye Fagan, they don’t have ideal fits for wings or two-guards.
Not only would Sibande be a great fit for a team who needs both shooting and depth, but he’d also be the projected lone senior on the roster. He can provide the experience and leadership for Georgia in a tough SEC league off the court, along with being a top-scoring option to take them closer towards an NCAA Tournament bid. Compared to the other SEC choices, the Bulldogs look like an ideal option with little drawbacks.
Xavier Musketeers
One issue for Xavier this past season has been consistent scoring from the perimeter, with only Paul Scruggs averaging in double figures. With both he and incoming grad transfer Nate Johnson around for just next year, Sibande could find himself in a situation where he can start and play a ton of minutes when eligible.
He would be competing with incoming four-star shooting guard C.J. Wilcher for minutes in 2021-22 but being a senior leader, Sibande would have the advantage. He fits the style of Coach Steele’s offense and the school is close by where he comes from at Miami (OH). Having a big of a hometown advantage could help the Musketeers land the former MAC star.
If we’ree talking about schemes and fits, both Alabama and Arkansas make compelling cases for Nike Sibande. But the other three (Georgia, Georgetown and Xavier) are much safer bets when it comes to playing time. And with just one year to play, he has the make the right decision or risks sitting his senior season. Xavier has a real shot to land Sibande but don’t underestimate the other elite recruiters on this list.
