NCAA Basketball: 10 teams who should target grad transfer Andrew Garcia
West Virginia Mountaineers
While the Mountaineers return almost everybody from last year’s 21-win team, they will be missing wing starter, Jermaine Haley. The 6’7 guard averaged 8.9 ppg and 4.3 rpg, which actually ranks near the top of all perimeter players for WVU this past season. He was a good defender and slasher but only attempted 19 three-pointers in the year.
Garcia would be an upgrade in that area and would provide a scoring boost, without sacrificing the defensive intensity of West Virginia’s system. With a great returning frontcourt and good point guard in Miles McBride, the shooting and wing contributions will be important for this team to be a contender next season. Of the available options, Garcia fits very well.
UCF Knights
Another team that could use Garcia and his talents are the Knights down in Florida. They lose several key pieces from this past season’s team, including Dazon Ingram and Matt Milon. The team has a number of transfers eligible to play next season, including sit-out guys Yuat Alok and Sean Mobley and incoming grad transfer point guard Darius Perry of Louisville.
Along with rising sophomore guard Darin Green Jr. and returning leading scorer Collin Smith, UCF has good depth to compete in the AAC. But they can use another scoring punch such as Garcia, who would find some good minutes on an under the radar program who can make some damage in 2021.
As other transfers are now entering the fold, Garcia and his recruitment may go into the background for a bit. But this is a strong graduate transfer target who’ll help out any of these listed teams or even someone not on the radar. It’ll be interesting to see where this particular Stony Brook graduate ends up at.
