Dayton Flyers

The departure of National Player of the Year Obi Toppin leaves an obvious hole in the frontcourt for the Flyers but losing the team’s next two leading rebounders (Ryan Mikesell and Trey Landers) hurts just as much. So far, this team hasn’t been able to find a frontcourt transfer this offseason despite the national attention but Smith could be the answer they’re looking for.

Dayton brings back a trio of starting guards, led by All-Atlantic 10 star Jalen Crutcher so just finding another body alongside center Jordy Tshimanga should be the current goal. The A-10 may be a drop-off from the Big Ten but Smith would be able to play at the power forward position much more easily.

Georgia Bulldogs

Head coach Tom Crean has done a good job in the transfer portal this offseason, landing former George Mason shooting guard Justin Kier, along with Stony Brook wing Andrew Garcia. With returning point guard Sahvir Wheeler back, the Bulldogs’ perimeter is set for next season.

The frontcourt is more of a question, with Rayshaun Hammonds off to the NBA Draft. That leaves several newcomers at the power forward position, such Toumani Camara, JUCO commit Tyron McMillan and three-star player Josh Taylor. Smith isn’t the natural center that they would need but for a one-year rental that has proven to score at the power conference level, Georgia could add him and use more production.
