NCAA Basketball: 6 teams that should target Iona transfer Isaiah Washington
Manhattan Jaspers
The mid-major level may be the best situation for Washington, particularly staying in the MAAC. There’s another program in New York in the league who has been landing transfers this offseason. Head coach Steve Masiello has already picked up Samba Diallo (UMass), Jason Douglas-Stanley (George Mason) and Anthony Nelson (Seton Hall), who’ll each have to sit out next season.
If the Jaspers wanted to, they could add Washington, who would be one of potentially eight seniors on the roster for the 2021-22 season. Since making the NCAA Tournament two straights seasons, Manhattan hasn’t won more than 14 total games in the last five years. With Rick Pitino now joining the MAAC, getting talent via the portal may be the only way to compete. Adding a former Gael in Washington would be helpful without question.
Rutgers Scarlet Knights
The breakout past season has been tremendous for the program on the recruiting trail, landing top-50 center Cliff Omoruyi, along with having an early commitment from class of 2021 top-100 wing Jaden Jones. The Scarlet Knights are also a contender for Trey Patterson, the top player from the state of New Jersey in next year’s class as well.
They still will need to find a ball-handler to replace Geo Baker once he graduates after next year and at the moment. Paul Mulcahy had a solid freshman season off the bench but it’s unknown as to whether or not he can be a starter on a good Big Ten team. Washington could be good to have in the rotation for Rutgers, even for just 15-20 minutes a game.
