NCAA Basketball power rankings – Houston Cougars
Another team that could be having frontcourt issues could be the Cougars. They already lost starting center Chris Harris via graduation, while the team’s leading rebounding and double-digit scorer Nate Hinton elected to stay in the NBA Draft. The would’ve left Fabian White Jr. to have a big role for next season but unfortunately, he recently suffered an ACL injury and will miss all of 2020-21.
Houston will be playing a ton of small-ball barring a transfer pickup but this team has been playing small the past couple of years and still has been one of the better rebounding teams in the country. They also benefit from the return of the team’s two leading scorers, Caleb Mills and Quentin Grimes. Idaho transfer Cameron Tyson is coming off a redshirt season, Marcus Sasser is entering his sophomore season and top-100 guard Tramon Mark provides even more depth in the backcourt.
Without White, the frontcourt will depend heavily on the production of Dejon Jarreau and Brison Gresham. If they can hold their own in the AAC, they’ll be the favorites. If not, and Memphis can get waivers for both Deandre Williams and Landers Nolley, then they’ll be the team to beat.
