NCAA Basketball option for El Ellis – UConn Huskies

If you have followed Ellis with his recruitment at all before he released his top eight then UConn should be no surprise. There is a lot of mutual interest between the Huskies and Ellis, Ellis has taken numerous virtual visits with Hurley and his staff over the past few months almost on a weekly basis.

UConn looks to have their point guard spot in good hands with Howard transfer RJ Cole becoming eligible for this upcoming season and there’s good depth behind him with Branden Adams who has been a great bench player in his career as well as Jalen Gaffney.

There’s no reason UConn can’t get two primary ball-handlers on the court at a time and there could always be a departure between now and the start of the 2021 season.

Regardless of that with both parties being in constant communication, it’s clear that the UConn staff have captured Ellis’ interest in the program. In 2021 both Cole and Brendan Adams would be seniors and Ellis could potentially play as an off-ball guard.

I’m not counting UConn out due to the amount of contact that’s been reported between the two but with the amount of good depth in their backcourt moving forward it wouldn’t surprise me to see Ellis go somewhere else.
