Big East Basketball breakout candidate – Christian Bishop (Creighton)

The Creighton Bluejays were the top seed in the Big East Tournament and it was their quarterfinal game that was canceled at halftime amid the outbreak of the coronavirus, in one of the most surreal days the sport has ever seen. Coach Greg McDermott, barring surprise NBA declarations, will return six of his top eight scorers, with the only significant piece needing replacing is guard Ty-Shon Alexander who decided to remain in the NBA draft.

Add to that a top-65 ranked recruit according to 247sports, point guard Rati Andronikashvili and Creighton will once again be formidable. While there may not be a ton of room for new playing time, that doesn’t mean guys won’t take a step forward, one guy I think could take a big step in his development is junior forward Christian Bishop. The 6-7 Bishop did a little of everything for the Bluejays last season, making 25 starts he averaged 8.6 pts, 5.3 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.1 blocks per game and shot 59% from the field.

Bishop will undoubtedly be the Bluejays’ go-to-guy in the frontcourt next season, as he is the only player taller than 6-5 to have seen action in more than 15 games last season, making him a good candidate to have a breakout season for an already strong team in Omaha.
