Rhode Island Basketball newcomer – Jalen Carey

Guard | 6-foot-3 | 186 lbs. | Syracuse University, Harlem, NY

Jalen Carey, who spent the last two seasons at Syracuse University, will be transferred to the University of Rhode Island.

Jalen Carey was ranked a four-star prospect out of high school and 53rd nationally per rivals and ESPN. The list of programs that recruited him includes Kansas, Villanova, Miami, Rutgers, UConn, and Syracuse.

The 6-foot-3 guard out of Harlem, NY who played at Immaculate Conception High School in Montclair, NJ, appeared in 27 games in the two years he played at Syracuse. Carey missed all but two games last year due to an injured thumb. He started in both games played this past season before undergoing surgery.

Jalen chose to put his name into the NCAA transfer portal where he would then commit to the University of Rhode Island.

“Jalen is a significantly talented basketball player who can make a major impact on our program,” Cox said.“ We have built a team that we believe will not just compete at the top end of the Atlantic 10, but also nationally for years to come.”

Carey would have to sit out the entire upcoming season, however, he is expecting to apply for a waiver. Carey would have three years of eligibility remaining if he receives a waiver. Otherwise, he would have to sit the 2020-21 season and have two years left to play for the Rams.
