By Joey Loose
Who are the most accomplished head coaches in SEC Basketball this century?
In recent years, SEC Basketball has continued to grow its profile as one of the country’s most prolific conferences. At the beginning of the century, Kentucky and Florida garnered much of the attention in the league, though that seems to be changing in recent years. Each of the fourteen basketball programs in this league has colorful histories, though some are more impressive than others.
The impressive histories of these programs are due in large part to the coaches who have passed through the SEC. Legends of the game, both past, and present, have made their mark working for the programs of this conference. Bringing talent to these prestigious schools may not be a difficult task for some, but coaching them into title contenders on a regular basis makes their hard work even more admirable.
We’re going to be taking a closer look at the ten greatest head coaches of the SEC since 2000. The play in the SEC has been fantastic for decades, though a few of these programs’ head coaches really stand out above the rest. We’ll be considering how a program fares on the national scale, in both wins and postseason success. There will also be special consideration based on how a coach fared relative to that program’s history.
With plenty of impressive coaches to consider, we begin our ranking of these coaches, looking closely at their time in the SEC since the turn of the century.
