NCAA Basketball: Ranking the 8 teams for top-100 guard Frankie Collins
2. Kansas Jayhawks
The Jayhawks have senior leader Marcus Garrett and incoming five-star point guard Bryce Thompson to facilitate the ball, along with the return of former four-star recruit Dajuan Harris, who redshirted last season after suffering an injury. With two of the three gone, Collins certainly can find himself an early role and be the latest in a long line of great point guards for head coach Bill Self.
This is arguably the most prestigious program on Collins list, as well as the list of programs that the NCAA is currently dealing with regarding NCAA sanctions. That has to be a concern, along with the possibility that Kansas brings in an even better point guard prospect than this particular player. But Collins is the kind of 3-4 year player who can develop into a star with the Jayhawks. And since he’s playing with Jaden Hardy next season, it seems as if Collins could get used to working with five-star talent on the roster.
1. Michigan Wolverines
After a rough couple of months on the recruiting and transfer circuit, head coach Juwan Howard has had a fantastic couple of weeks. They landed three players in the 2021 recruiting class, including four-star prospects Kobe Bufkin and Isaiah Barnes.
But they still need to add a point guard in that group to replace grad transfer Mike Smith and senior guard Eli Brooks. Especially since Purdue transfer Nojel Eastern won’t be joining the Wolverines after all. Collins could either start or get major minutes at Michigan, while not having to worry about getting over-recruited.
Compared to the rest of the available options, there isn’t a true negative selling point concerning Michigan Basketball. That could help give the team an edge to add another quality player to the 2021 class.
