NCAA Basketball: Formerly injured players set for big impact in 2020-21
Joshua Langford – Michigan State
Stating that the 2016 No. 20 recruit will make an impact for the Spartans is as obvious as choosing Morgan Freeman if you could have one celebrity narrate your day-to-day activities. Unfortunately, having only competed in thirteen games of the 2018-19 season and never stepping on to the court in 2019-20, the question remains if the 6’5 guard will suit up for the Spartans again.
In the thirteen games that he played in 2018-19, the Alabama native averaged 15 points with a 27.9 usage percentage over 28.6 minutes per game. His final game was against Northern Illinois on Dec.29, 2018 when he played just twelve minutes and would eventually to surgery in February.
At the time Langford stated that he would not apply for a waiver to be granted a medical redshirt which was a clear indication of his lack of intention of staying any longer than he had to in Ann Arbor. After missing the entire 2019-20 season there is no need for that waiver in order to be granted another year of eligibility. Even coach Izzo is realistic when it comes to Langford’s decision, as he stated to the Detroit Free Press on Dec.19, 2019.
"“Josh was always hoping after this year to test his professional options, both overseas, in the G-League, and even in the NBA if he would have had a good season. I think that’s still his hopes and dreams.”"
Whether he uses a year at MSU to prove his worth or he chooses to not risk injury and get a contract somewhere, wherever that somewhere is, Joshua Langford will be making an impact.
