NCAA Basketball: A look at teams interested in top-10 F Caleb Houstan
Alabama Crimson Tide
Head coach Nate Oats has been looking for his first-ever five-star commit with the Tide. Houstan is one of several candidates in the 2021 class but likely won’t make a final cut. But with how the offensive system works at Alabama, this would be a very interesting pairing.
With John Petty and Herb Jones gone after next season, as well as potentially 15 ppg guard Jaden Shackelford, there will be a next to find someone who can jump out the gate and be a leading scorer. Houstan would thrive in this system, but it will be tough to beat out the blue bloods in this process.
Arizona Wildcats
With both Dylan Smith and Josh Green gone, the small forward position next season will likely be held by a freshman, one of the four incoming players picked up this offseason. Top-50 wing Dalen Terry has all-conference talent, while four-star prospect Bennedict Mathurin has NBA potential down the line.
Of course, Houstan would start over them if he picked Arizona, or could simply play at the power forward spot and slide Jordan Brown to the center position. The big question with this program is whether or not they’ll face sanctions for alleged recruitment violations. That lingering issue makes it difficult to see the Wildcats as a true contender for him.
