G, Jameer Nelson Jr. – George Washington

Jameer Nelson Jr. is George Washington’s breakout candidate for the 2020-21 season. Nelson Jr. is the son of Jameer Nelson who starred at Saint Joe’s University before enjoying a 14-year NBA career.

In high school, he led the Haverford School to an undefeated 30-0 season that culminated in a Class 5A state championship as a senior. He averaged 15 points per game and earned second-team all-state honors.

Nelson Jr. wrapped up his freshman season campaign as fourth on the team in scoring and second among team rookies with 10.4 points per game. Nelson also led the team in steals last season with 1.8 per game. He finished in fifth place in the steals per game category throughout the entire conference.  Nelson Jr. played all 31 games and made 28 starts in just his first season with the Colonials.

The Colonials are bringing in nine new additions through recruitment and the NCAA transfer portal. Although the young and new talent added to this program represents a bright future for this squad, it is unclear how eligible these players will become next season. This will allow for Jameer Nelson Jr. to take on a bigger role on Jamion Christian’s team. We can expect to see Jameer Nelson Jr. playing more minutes, averaging more points, and even potentially following in his father’s footsteps in the future.
