NCAA Basketball: Updated 2020-21 power rankings after NBA Draft deadline
It’s been a fascinating offseason for the Red Raiders, with both good and bad news. Leading scorer Jahmi’us Ramsey will be staying in the NBA Draft, while sharpshooting junior guard Davide Moretti took a pro offer to play back at home in Italy. And then there was the brief period where No. 1 class of 2021 recruit Jonathan Kuminga was considering playing for Texas Tech next season before he ultimately decided to go to the G League.
What also happened or Texas Tech included landed a trio of transfers. VCU big man Marcus Santos-Silva is eligible for next season and will form a strong starting frontcourt alongside eligible sit-out UNLV transfer Joel Ntambwe. The other two transfers were guards Jamarius Burton from Wichita State and Mac McClung from Georgetown. The team and McClung are looking to get a waiver, which will give them a lethal scorer on offense in 2020-21.
Among the returning rotation players are national breakout candidates Kyler Edwards and Terrence Shannon Jr. Incoming five-star guard Nimari Burnett and top-50 Micah Peavy are also set to have a big role for the Red Raiders, whether McClung is able to play or not. As long as the defense remains formidable, this is a team that can compete for a Big 12 title.
