NCAA Basketball: Updated 2020-21 power rankings after NBA Draft deadline
12. Creighton Bluejays
It was already a tough blow for the Bluejays early on when leading scorer Ty-Shon Alexander decided to enter and stay in the NBA Draft. But there were a couple of juniors in Damien Jefferson and Denzel Mahoney who waited up until this weekend to make a decision themselves.
The good news for Creighton is that both guards/wings are coming back and should be 100% healthy as well. Mahoney was an elite sixth man offensive option, while Jefferson could play some undersized power forward for the team when needed. These two will be pivotal role pieces, while star guards Mitchell Ballock and Marcus Zegarowski will be back to lead the way.
Because of the great depth of perimeter players, the odds are good that the Bluejays will continue to utilize small-ball lineups next season. But they will have frontcourt options against bigger opponents, with Jacob Epperson coming back from missing all of last year with an injury, along with four-star big man Ryan Kalkbrenner. This is a team that should have one of the best offenses in all of NCAA Basketball while having a more balanced roster with actual frontcourt depth. They’ll have to replace the defense of Alexander though on the perimeter, or risk having most of their games being shootouts.
